Indian Education

Title VI Indian Education program for Alaska Native students

Lake and Peninsula School District’s Indian Education program is funded by the federal Title VI Indian Education Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The program supports what LPSD’s Alaska Native students need to succeed in school and to be culturally literate in their personal lives and as members of their tribes.

How Funds Are Used

Indian Education funding currently supports:

  • LPSD’s annual SNAP Meet in Newhalen
  • Additional classroom aides in our schools

Families, tribes, and community members help decide how funds are used each year through the needs assessment survey below.

Tribal Survey: Indian Education Needs Assessment

Help shape the district’s Title VI Indian Education program for the 2026-2027 school year. The survey asks families, tribes, and community members to rank proposed program priorities for Alaska Native students and share ideas for improving services.

Student Eligibility (ED 506 Form)

Each student counted for the Title VI program needs an ED 506 Indian Student Eligibility Certification Form on file, completed by a parent or guardian. The district’s grant amount is based on the number of eligible students, so returning the form helps fund services for every Alaska Native student in our schools.

Indian Policies and Procedures

The district also consults with tribes and parents of Alaska Native students through its annual Indian Policies and Procedures. See the Impact Aid page for the current documents and how to comment.
