Graduation Requirements

Students must complete the following credits to graduate from LPSD high schools:

Alaska State Standards

LPSD uses the Alaska State Standards for curriculum and instruction. Students are assessed through the Standards Based Assessment (SBA) system.

Experiencing Out Program

The Experiencing Out program allows students to document relevant cultural experiences in lieu of traditional academic exercises. This program:

• Honors our community’s traditions and way of life
• Meets educational requirements
• Provides college credit opportunities
• Is available to students in grades 9-12

College & Career Readiness

College Entrance Requirements

For students planning to attend a four-year university, additional coursework is recommended:

• Foreign Language: 2+ years
• Visual/Performing Arts: 1+ year

Standardized Testing

Students are encouraged to take:

• ACT or SAT (for college admission)
• Accuplacer (for Alaska college placement)

Alternative Credits

LPSD offers several ways to earn credits beyond traditional classroom instruction:

• Online Courses — Through the Alaska Distance Learning consortium
• Dual Enrollment — College courses while in high school
• Credit Recovery — For students needing to recover credits
• Experiencing Out — Cultural experience credits

Graduation Ceremony

Graduation ceremonies are held at the end of each school year. Specific dates and details are communicated through the school calendar and individual school announcements.
