Getting to your school site

Travel arrangements to your school site should be made through the district travel coordinator.

Getting to Your School Site

Travel itineraries are routed through Anchorage (Alaska’s largest city) and King Salmon (the Lake and Peninsula regional hub). Anchorage can be reached from “Outside” or “the Lower 48” by air or by road. From Anchorage, King Salmon is only accessible by air. Travel to all of our school sites is by local air taxi.

Baggage

Airlines vary in how much luggage they allow. Normally you can bring at least one checked bag (50 lbs. or less) and one carry-on that fits under your seat. Allowances may be smaller on the small airlines that serve the villages, and excess baggage charges can be high. Check with your airline before you depart.

Air Taxis

A variety of small charter and air taxi operators serve our area. They operate on an “as flights fill” basis, and flight times vary from day to day. When you contact them, speak directly to the owner/operator, tell them you are a new teacher arriving for the first time, and let them know how much baggage you will be bringing. Our local pilots are very helpful in getting staff to their sites.
